This past Friday and Saturday was LEAP summit. Two days were filled with inspirational stories. Here is what I took from this years summit.
Don’t think, just start.
Have the right people around you.
Put people first.
Fail is inevitable
Andrija Čolak, owns the most successful Croatian franchise brand Surf’n’Fries working in over 20 countries in the world on 5 continents, he spoke about just starting, don’t think because we tend to overthink things and not doing enough.
Sunchana B, Johnston, an independent expert, specializing in project management, PMO, governance & planning, career coach, gave her formula: have idea-keep it simple- test it on social media- develop it- sell it.
Bilal Awan is an award-winning entrepreneur. However, he is also a series of fail. He believes in finding opportunities in failure.
Ben Woldring, CEO & Founder Bencom Group and he started when he was 13 years old. His advice was:
Have a talented people around you,
put your audience/ customer first,
believe in your ideas and do it,
you can block or think about solution take action
and don’t quit too early.
He also told the story of how he had breakfast with Richard Branson. Both of them were on some TV show/ meeting. Ben got introduced to R. Branson and Ben used this opportunity to talk (business, not small talk) to businessman Branson. Branson asked him: “Have you had your breakfast yet?”, Ben replied that he hadn’t so Branson invited Ben to join him at breakfast. They ended up talking for 30 minutes. This story paints the perfect picture of “Just do it” motto.
Mark Van Der Heijden is a world traveller, creative entrepreneur and founder of Wanderbrief. He ditched a 9-5 job and started Backpack intern adventure.
Marks tips for success:
Think big, start small
Ask your audience (why are you following me? What problem do you have so I can solve it?)
Walk the talk
Think less do more
People with a receipt are a fraud;
Have a vision not story;
Stay humble and strong;
Focus on hard problems.
Ingrid Vanderveldt is empowering a Billion Women by 2020 and has been named by Oprah as one of her Global 100.
She was broke. Living in a car and being in a depression and thinking about suicide. One of her friends took her home, gave her shelter and food. From bottom, Ingrid climbed her way to the top. She was working with Michael Dell on empowering a billion women by 2020.
Her speech was: Right mindset + right people+ right action.
You are your own worst enemy: change your mindset.
Mentors are must (PS. Sunchana said mentors don’t need to know they are your mentors)
Surround yourself with positive people: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
All of this will lead you to the right action. You need to take it.
